Quality and safe care

Hospital Jihlava, contributory organisation

Resort Security Objectives

The Ministry of Health of the Czech Republic has announced the Resort Security Objectives, which are based on the analysis of the most risky processes in the health care system and on the recommendations of the World Health Organization and the European Union. It is a set of security measures to ensure quality and safe provision of health services in a healthcare organisation. The procedures and implementation of all departmental safety objectives are regulated by the hospital's internal regulations.

  • 1. Safe patient identification

This is a safety measure to prevent confusion of patients, laboratory samples or medicines. When you are admitted to our hospital, the admitting nurse will place an identification bracelet on your wrist to prevent mix-ups and help ensure your safety. The wristband displays your first and last name and a QR code that contains your identifying information.

  • 2. Safety when using risky medicines

We emphasize safe storage and administration of risky drugs (addictive substances, heparins, insulins, concentrated electrolytes). At the Hospital Jihlava, risky drugs are stored separately from commonly used drugs in each ward to prevent possible misuse or incorrect administration. Before handling a risky drug, the health care worker is repeatedly warned about the risks involved in its administration.

  • 3. Prevention of patient, procedure and patient-side confusion in surgical procedures

We use a standardised method of marking the surgical site, in which the doctor marks the location of the surgical procedure in collaboration with the patient in the pre-operative preparation. Before the start of the surgical procedure, we perform the so called preoperative security procedure, which aims to verify the correct identification of the patient, the surgical procedure, the operating field, instruments and implants, the readiness of the instruments and the correct antibiotic prophylaxis.

  • 4. Prevention of patient falls

As a patient stays in a healthcare facility, the likelihood of falling increases. Therefore, during the initial assessment, nurses perform a fall risk assessment on all inpatients. Preventive measures are identified for all patients to reduce the risk. The patient's cooperation is essential for the success of the set fall prevention measures.

  • 5. Implementation of optimal hand hygiene practices in health care delivery

Hand hygiene is a basic measure to reduce the risk of hospital-acquired infection. We place great emphasis on implementing and following good hand hygiene practices during healthcare delivery. Healthcare workers perform hygienic hand disinfection before patient contact, before aseptic activities, after exposure to biological material, after contact with the patient and with the patient's surroundings.

  • 6. Safe communication

Safe, effective communication between healthcare professionals is an important tool to ensure safe and quality patient care. We have established a standardized procedure for oral and telephone communication among healthcare professionals at the Hospital Jihlava for prescribing medications and reporting patient laboratory results.

  • 7. Safe transfer of patients

The safe handover of patients between shifts, handover for or after a procedure, or when transferring a patient to another department or workplace, is carried out by competent healthcare professionals, including appropriate entries in the medical records.

  • 8. Prevention of decubitus in hospitalized patients

During the initial examination, nurses carry out a risk assessment of all inpatients on the inpatient wards, according to which they prepare and implement preventive measures to reduce the risk of decubitus ulcers. Hospital Jihlava pays great attention to the issue of prevention and treatment of decubitus. For patients at risk of developing decubitus, the wards have a large number of positioning aids and anti-disability mattresses for beds, which significantly reduce the risk of pressure on the predilection sites. We actively educate on the issue of decubitus.
