Social beds
Based on paragraph 52 of Act No. 108/2006 Coll. on social services provided in healthcare facilities, five social beds have been established at the Department of Geriatric and Geriatric Medicine at Hospital Jihlava.
Social beds are available to clients who no longer require institutional health care but, due to their health condition and reduced self-sufficiency, require constant assistance from another person. Furthermore, persons who are unable to independently meet their basic needs in their own social environment until they are placed in a residential social services facility or cared for by a close person or field social services. The target group does not include persons whose lifestyles are contrary to the department Operating Rules and the established social beds (persons with significant personality disorders, persons addicted to alcohol and narcotics, persons with moderate to severe dementia, if they are likely to disrupt the rules of collective coexistence). Furthermore, people whose health condition requires permanent and specialized medical care.
The role of social beds at Hospital Jihlava
The role of social beds is to provide social services mainly to seniors who were previously hospitalized in the inpatient departments of the Hospital Jihlava and who, due to their newly arising unfavorable situation, cannot return to their home environment. We strive to maintain their natural contacts, support their existing self-care skills, and offer help in overcoming or resolving adverse life situations.
Service objectives
Provide high-quality services in line with the mission of the entire healthcare facility, create a pleasant, safe, and natural environment. Support clients in maintaining contact with their families and the outside world, help them overcome newly arising adverse situations and the loss of social roles. Involve clients in local activation and therapeutic activities, offer psychological support.
Type of service provided
- Provision of accommodation (including cleaning, laundry, and, in exceptional cases where the client has no family, personal laundry).
- Provision of meals, which are provided throughout the day, with their composition appropriate to the age of the children.
- Rational nutrition and dietary needs.
- Essential nursing procedures.
- Assistance with personal hygiene.
- Assistance with managing routine personal care tasks.
- Facilitating contact with the social environment – activation activities.
- Assistance in exercising rights, legitimate interests, and handling personal matters.
- Social and psychological counseling.
- Optional services selected by the client, which are charged according to a special price list available on the Hospital Jihlava website and attached to these internal rules.
Principles of the service provided
The principles of the services provided in the facility's social beds are fully in accordance with the Code of Ethics for Patients' Rights, which clients and their families can read on the Hospital Jihlava website or obtain directly from the key staff member.
Services are provided on the following principles:
- Respect for clients' human rights.
- Respecting the individuality, autonomy, independence, and genuine individual needs of the client.
- Supporting clients in achieving appropriate self-sufficiency and independence.
- Respecting the client's right to choose.
- High-quality and safe care.
- Mutual respect between the client and the employee.
- During the initial interview, each client is familiarized with the social beds' rules and regulations, including other related regulations. They are also informed about the services that can be provided to them at the social beds.
- Everyone is also informed about the possibilities of expressing requests, opinions, and complaints.
Upon admission, the client signs a consent form agreeing to the processing of their personal data in accordance with the Personal Data Protection Act. Furthermore, during the initial interview, they are informed of their rights and assured that the staff will endeavor to respect them. For example:
- Privacy during hygiene, visits, etc.
- timetable, types of activities, mobility, socializing, visits, choice of clothing,
- food, doctors, medication, night checks,
- method of payment for the room,
- flexible support for the individual needs and personal goals of the client.
The client is also informed about the possibility of exceptional use of measures restricting movement (based on a doctor's recommendation or at their own request = informed consent).
Care is provided 24 hours a day by a qualified team consisting of a doctor, general nurses, a medical assistant, a rehabilitation nurse, caregivers, a social worker, and a psychologist.
To ensure that clients feel comfortable in our healthcare facility's social beds, we will certainly strive to create a pleasant and friendly atmosphere. We will listen to our clients' wishes and try to accommodate them as flexibly as possible within the scope of our capabilities.
How to pay for social beds?
- Social services are provided on the basis of a contract concluded with the client. The contract is concluded for a fixed term.
- A deposit of CZK 3,000 is collected upon admission.
- If a client is granted a care allowance, this allowance is used in full by the provider to provide social services, in accordance with the law.

- Stay in a social bed with meals 505 CZK a day.
- Price of accompanying a patient without meals 330 CZK a day.
